Children of Corn

Dedicated to all peoples growing corn:

We are the Children of Corn
Luis Enrique Mejía Goy, Nicaragua

With corn, planted, forever
Since before they bled, our land
The crows, the pirates, the cross
The sword and the capital

We are children of corn
Builders of grooves and dreams
And although we are a small country
We already have more than 1,000 winters
A 1,000,000, of hands blooming
In the endless task of sowing
From April to May, tilling, sowing
Upholstering, shelling
Stocking up, for war, and peace

Corn chicha, chicha pujagua*
Chicha raizuda, corn hair (the atol...)
corn chingue, nacatamal
Atolillo, (perrereque...!)
Tamalpizque, tototospe, marquesote, chocolate
Pinolillo, pinol, putlisten, pundelo
Chilote, elote, pozole, tortilla, pirila, empanada

That is, the massif
And irreversible food of the people
This way we will be newer
This way we will be corn...
New!

*Different kinds of Mesoamerican foods and drinks prepared on the base of corn.
